The year was 1979 and Marten (having graduated from High School 2 years earlier and trying a short stint at Douglas College) was unsure of what his future held and the direction in which he should be heading. He had always worked with the public, mostly within the service industry, enjoying the social interaction. In much earlier years, there was frequent exposure to Real Estate, as his parents were ardent investors, and so it meant being dragged along to scrub, paint and help landscape and maintain the various rental properties that they bought and sold over the years.

His primary interests were in photography and he was hoping to take courses at Capilano College. Unfortunately, there was a waiting list at that time and so, prompted by his Father Lance ( also a licensed Realtor ) he took the Real Estate Pre & Post Licensing courses, becoming licensed in April 1980. The rest, as they say is history, with Marten enduring all of the economic fluctuations and volatility over the years to amass an almost 3 decade career. He has been with Sutton Group - 1st West Realty since 1987 and prior to that he was employed by NRS Block Bros Realty.

Marten has sold and listed many hundreds of properties all over the Lower Mainland from Vancouver's West Side to the rural Fraser Valley. He has qualified on numerous occasions for the "Medallion Club" which represents the top 10% of all Realtors in the Greater Vancouver Real Estate Board. He has also received numerous awards from Sutton Group, including the prestigious "Platinum Award", awarded for high sales volume and a constant focus on customer service and professionalism.

Today with nearly 30 years of experience behind him he still enjoys the business and strives for the utmost in professionalism , compassion and nothing short of excellence in the service he provides his clientele. He would rather forgo a questionable transcation with clients and pursue a proper course of action, always working with their best interest in mind.

 When not working, he enjoys family time with his wife & 2 grown daughters as well as running,cycling, and gardening on their acreage, and last but not least, photography!
